The work

Traces of what remains. A presence that cannot be silenced.

The Phantom of the War conjures a presence born from the echoes left behind by conflict. A single piece of naturally shaped driftwood carried by time and the rhythm of the sea stands before a polished surface. Only when the wood meets its reflection does the phantom’s face appear, a form completed not by carving but by the quiet symmetry between object and image. Its gaze rests in a hollow stillness, and its tilted posture suggests a subdued force lingering at rest. Behind it, a wall of bullet shells becomes a silent archive of past violence, grounding the apparition in the weight of history. In this union of driftwood and reflection, the sculpture reveals how the unseen remnants of war can surface in unexpected ways, inviting contemplation on what endures after the battles have faded.
